Approximately 250 Spanish Colonial Artists from New Mexico and Southern Colorado will take part in this enchanting event, bringing to downtown Santa Fe a critical mass of exponents of woodcarving, tinwork, colcha, hide painting, retablos, straw appliquΓ©, furniture and furnishings, weaving, jewelry, filigree, pottery and ironwork.

Contemporary Spanish Market

Contemporary Hispanic Market in Santa Fe presents more than 130 artists drawing from their Hispanic heritage and New Mexico traditions and showcasing contemporary artworks. Founded in 1986, this event has a mission to provide statewide artists an opportunity to show their work and give the casual and serious collector a rare opportunity to meet and visit with some of the most respected Hispanic artists currently producing contemporary art in New Mexico. The first market took place one summer in the courtyard of the Palace of the Governors with a small group of 11 free-spirited artists displaying their work, while nearby the traditional artists were on the Plaza during Traditional Spanish Market. Now, the market has grown to over 130 artists juried in 15 diverse categories. Besides the quality of their creations, artists juried into Contemporary Hispanic Market are trusted, on the honor system, to be at least one-quarter Hispanic and residents of New Mexico.
